MICRO BUILDERS' ASSOCIATION, SINGAPORE (MBAS) PIONEERS NEW BUILDTRUST® CONSTRUCTION QUALITY ASSESSMENT SCHEME FOR LANDED PROPERTIES

Singapore, 12 April 2024 The Micro Builders Association, Singapore (MBAS) BuildTrust® Construction Quality Assessment Scheme for Landed Properties & Micro Projects was officially launched by Minister of State for National Development Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim earlier today at BCA Academy.

With support from the Building & Construction Authority and Enterprise Singapore (ESG) under its Local Enterprise & Association Development (LEAD) Programme, the BuildTrust® Construction Quality Assessment Scheme is positioned as the national standard when it comes to assessing the workmanship quality by contractors for landed properties and micro building projects.

BuildTrust® Certification Programme

With the BuildTrust® Certification Programme, property owners will be able to ensure that their properties are graded accurately and professionally, thus reducing possible disputes amongst owners and contractors. Mr Ian Teo, President of MBAS, said: “We are committed to providing quality assurance with the BuildTrust® Construction Quality Assessment Scheme’s stringent quality standards and gradings”.

Landed property owners will now be able to shortlist their desired contractors by their grading standard of Platinum, Gold or Merit before engaging their services. In tandem with the scheme, MBAS has partnered with the Singapore Institute of Architects Academy (SIAA) to jointly conduct the BuildTrust® Manager Certification Programme and the BuildTrust® Assessor Certification Programme. Applicants to both programmes will need to meet eligibility requirements before starting the Certification Program. Under the guidance of the Advisory Council formed by MBAS, SIA, together with the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore (ACES) and Society of Project Managers Singapore (SPS), MBAS has designed this programme to ensure that both managers and assessors are equipped with the relevant competency and that there is consistency in the quality of the property assessments.

BuildTrust® Assessor Certification Programme

The BuildTrust® Assessor Certification Programme emphasises the importance of engaging certified professionals. As uncertified assessors may lack the necessary training and expertise; posing potential risks to property evaluation and safety standards, by promoting the use of certified assessors, the BuildTrust® Assessor Certification Programme endeavours to mitigate such risks and uphold industry best practices.

Ar. Tiah Nan Chyuan, First Vice President of the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), further stressed the importance of reliable assessors and contractors: “To ensure the integrity and safety of our homes, we need to put in place high-quality and dependable assessors in order to maintain reliable construction standards and minimise any disputes.”

About Micro Builders Association, Singapore

Conceived in 2012 by a group of like-minded Singapore contractors specialising in landed properties building, the formation of Micro Builders Association, Singapore (MBAS) was mooted with the objectives to address the interests and challenges faced specifically by this niche segment of the built environment sector. On 12 June 2013, MBAS received the approval by the Registrar-of-Societies (ROS) making its official presence as a registered trade association representing the SME contractors of landed properties and smaller scale commercial projects in Singapore. Since then, the association has grown in strength, and is now one of the key organisations working with the relevant government bodies and fellow industry colleagues in pushing initiatives which further transforms the SME contractors’ landscape.
